What is SADI?
Welcome to SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, Inc. SADI is a community based, non-profit, nonresidential center for independent living. SADI is committed to providing services to persons with disabilities to enable them to remain in their own home and community, and not in an institution. Our service area is predominantly rural. Information and referral services are offered to anyone living in the Southeast Missouri counties of Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Mississippi, Perry, Scott, and the City of Sikeston.
SADI began in 1984 as a polio support group and was funded in 1993 as an Independent Living Center. Our services are designed by consumers for consumers, through surveys and needs assessments done periodically by the center and through networking with other agencies. Over 51% of SADI staff members are persons of disability, with the same percentage serving on the Board of Directors.
Mission
In order to provide independent living services to as many people as possible, SADI receives funding from the State of Missouri through the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Division of Health and Senior Services, MODOT, private donations, and fundraising. Private and corporate donations are always needed and are tax deductable. Donations of new or used assistive technology (i.e., shower chairs, bath benches, walkers, crutches, etc.), are always needed and welcome. These items are provided free of charge to persons with disabilities unable to afford this equipment.
