Consumer Directed Services (CDS) was designed for persons with disabilities who do not want nursing home care or traditional In-Home Services. Through the CDS program, consumers can choose their own attendants, set their own schedule for care, and manage their timesheets. This program is wonderful for consumers who want to direct their own care and maintain their independence. Young adults with disabilities, aging baby boomers as well as others find this program works for them because they have the control. By hiring an attendant that the consumer knows and trusts, the consumer is more relaxed and comfortable with the care they receive in their own home.
Consumers interested in CDS must be able to direct their own care. This means they must understand what their needs are and what has to be done to get those needs met.
Consumers will have to be able to train their attendants to perform their personal care and instruct them on how things need to be done.
Consumers have to be able to prepare timesheets (or instruct the attendant to complete the timesheets). The consumer must then look over and verify that the timesheets are accurate before it is submitted to the Payroll/Billing Department at SADI for processing.
Consumers will be responsible for hiring (and firing) their own attendants. SADI has a Possible Attendant List for consumers who need an attendant but the ultimate responsibility for finding someone belongs to the consumer.
Consumers receiving CDS must be Medicaid eligible. If a consumer has a spend down, it must be pre-paid or met by the first day of each month in order for the attendant to get paid. If the spend down is not met, the attendant will not get paid through the CDS program.
